Whassup yall....
this is my first commentary junt, so just chill if this is a lil outta atomosphere...
There is somethin seriously wrong with hip-hop nowadays... I aint tryin to hate on nobody, but there's a lot of so-called artists out there, who thalk 'bout all their shiny lil toys and stuff and think they got skills. Granted they do have record sales, but Picasso paintings sell for mad scrill, and I think that theylook like a 5 year old did it in class before nap time.
Since everyone is on this lil bling bling tip right c'hea... I'll break it down for y'all peepin that Orleans style.
Right now you got two major labels; Cash Money Records, and No Limit Records...
Granted No Limit started out as being based in Richmond, California (I remember them songs P did with Silk and C-Bo), but when a lot of Southern artists were getting exposure, P had to jump ship and start back claimin Down-South...
Granted this caused the best No Limit release ever (Down South Hustlers Volume One), it was a move strictly for exposure... More power to ya P... I respect that..... No Doubt, but P forgot that whole Bay Area Feelin'... and that put a lotta folks off y'dig... That's when a lotta folks said he sold out... I was still feelin him up until he came out with "Ghetto D"... It was too mainstream for me... I mean it was still P but the style of tracks was completely different from his older stuff... There was a lot more party junts... folks was accustomed to those high bass "bout it bout it" type of tracks... then P started that lil soldier song junts... I was feelin that for a lil while... I was like I dont like P but No Limit is aight... but then after a while, I felt that their "art" (operative word ART) was driven too much by mainstream fancies than their own spirit...
Then you have Cash Money Records... I respect Cash Money... I just got philosophical differences with 'em...
I give props to Juvie, cuz he's been well established since that bounce for the Juvenile junt way back that he did with DJ Jimi (Trigga Man), that was when he was like 13 so y'know he's well into his craft... I just feel that as a whole Cash Money isn't about the love no more... It seem like when you come up, you all starvin and hungry... and if you meet up with mainstream success, you get all fat and sloppy with your art, cuz you aren't relying on it as much... Cash Money is tight no doubt... I aint tryin to hate if you out for that money Im'ma holla for ya y'dig... cuz we all family in this... I'm just sayin.... don't be so much bout that scrilla and mainstream airplay, that you change your image (No Limit), or limit yourself to rappin bout all the women and jewelry y'all got (Cash Money)....
Now don't think I'm hatin on that New Orleans style, cuz like I said I used 2 listen 2 No Limit, and Cash Money...
And I still listen to Smoke One Records, which is run by Tre-8, an artist featured on DSH Vol. 1, I listen to him, Mr. Cheefa, Zeeda, and I heard that one Beelow junt, so don't go out sayin I got no love for nobody cuz I do...
Holla At'cha Next Time.....
